Grilling Tips

Tips for grillingBetter grilling can occur when useful tips are put into action. The more tips that are utilized when grilling food, the better the end results will be.

1. Aluminum Foil
Many times, aluminum foil will be used on outdoor equipment when grilling food. There are certain things to remember when using foil to help make the grilling experience even more productive. Small items can be grilled more easily when they are wrapped in a neat little package. In this way, they will not slip through the grates.

When placing food items on foil, use heavy-duty foil that will hold up well and place the food in the center, leaving a border of about two inches around the food.

2. Charcoal Fire
A charcoal fire will start up more easily if the coals are placed in the shape of a pyramid approximately half an hour before cooking begins. This will provide adequate ventilation. When using lighter fluid, the coals should be soaked in about half a cup of fluid. The fluid should then be allowed to soak into the coals for approximately one minute. A match can then be used to light the coals.

When an electric starter is used, the starter should be placed in the middle of a pyramid of coals and plugged in. The starter should be removed when ash has started to form, in about ten minutes.

3. Grilling Beef
Beef is grilled most often on outdoor equipment. To create juicy burgers, do not choose meat that is extra lean, as this type of beef tends to dry out on the grill. Instead, choose meat that is no more than 85 percent lean. A few tablespoons of beef broth or tomato juice mixed into each pound of meat can also add juiciness to grilled burgers.

4. Grilling Fish
Grilling fish is another popular option. The grill should be well oiled and also hot when fish is placed on it. Remember to season the fish beforehand for added flavor and to brush it with oil. Fish will cook quickly, so it must be watched closely. Turn fillets when necessary, usually after ten minutes for fish on the bone weighing two pounds. If the fillets are thicker, they should be turned after approximately five minutes. The same applies for thick steaks.

5. Marinades
When marinades are used, never reuse them, as bacteria will form in a marinade since it has come into contact with raw meat. The only time that a marinade can be used again is if it is boiled completely to be used as a baste for the meat.

Grilling tips can help any cook to become more efficient at using outdoor grilling equipment and getting the best results.
